Santhanam was born on 21 January 1980(age 33) in Pozhichalur, Chennai. He has a Diploma degree in Mechanical Engineering. Santhanam began his career in the popular comedy troupe "Nungambakkam Boys Kondaatam" who did comedy shows particularly during Diwali time. The troupe included M. S. Bhaskar who rarely assisted them with his performances.
He moved to television shows such as Chinna Papa Periya Papa in 1999 and in Kovai Anuradha's Costly Maapillai.After that he started his career in television in a comedy show titled Sakala vs Ragala followed by Lollu Sabha.
